VALLEY OF THE MOON
Personal work
Imke Ligthart wins the SO 2020 Award for her project Valley of the Moon, a photographic exploration she created during a journey to the Wadi Rum desert in southern Jordan.
With subtle interventions, she documents the traces humans leave behind, using the stark desert as a richly contrasting setting. Ligthart’s images are both reflective observations of place and poetic explorations of presence, memory, and the human imprint on nature. Her work navigates between past, present, and future, revealing a visual narrative grounded in curiosity and thoughtful engagement with the environment.
